Alice Griffith Redevelopment

San Francisco, CA
The new, highly sustainable, mixed-income community provides 276 replacement units of public housing, tax credit and market rate homes.

276The housing and its surrounding areas were in need of extensive rehabilitation. To facilitate this rehabilitation the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded a $30.5 million Choice Neighborhoods Grant for the re-development and urban revitalization of the community.

The San Francisco Chronicle called the award a “jump start” for the revitalization effort that is transforming the Alice Griffith development and creating new opportunities for the community and its residents. Torti Gallas provided professional services including master planning, architectural design and construction documents, and construction phase services.

The highly sustainable, mixed-income housing community provides 504 units comprised of public housing, replacement tax credit and market rate apartments, and townhomes. Seven blocks of the community are designed to the City of San Francisco’s Building and Safety Sustainability Requirements. The project also
includes community facilities, a community garden, tot lots, green space, and on-site parking.
