Planning

We create authentic, compact, walkable, mixed-use communities that promote a vibrant public realm, maximize economic value, and promote healthy communities.

Our built environment is one of the longest lasting legacies that we leave future generations. TG+P’s goal is to responsibly design mixed-use, compact, walkable communities that are environmentally sensitive, promote physical and mental health, facilitate economic development, and promote social equity, maximize returns on investment, and celebrate the unique local culture.

Every community is unique. We seek to first understand the inherent characteristics of a place - its history, culture, landscape, economy - in order to develop the “right” solution. We strive to create solutions that are authentic to the places we work. We bring diverse expertise that includes Urban Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, and Architecture – this allows us to bring a 360-degreeperspective. Inextricably linking these skills allows us to bring a holistic perspective supported by in-depth analysis, public outreach and consensus building, creative alternatives and thoughtful evaluation, and effective implementation tools to arrive at inventive solutions tailor-made for each community.

An Integrated Approach

No single decision creates great places - the magic happens when a holistic approach is used that addresses diverse elements simultaneously and combines them in the right way to create the “story” of a place.  The public realm, land use, architecture and programming must work in harmony to result in a truly noteworthy destination.

TG+P has been dedicated to Placemaking for decades, creating authentic, unique, vibrant, and diverse destinations. Our experience includes Retail Placemaking, Strategic Placemaking, including Innovation Districts, Creative Placemaking, with an arts focus, and Tactical Placemaking, immediate, small and temporary interventions.

Our Experience

We bring extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, and we take pride in balancing the diverse needs of communities with the realities of the marketplace to create visionary, yet buildable, solutions that bring value to our clients. Our Planning, Urban Design, and Neighborhood Design work happens at a variety of densities and scales - whether for greenfield developments, suburban revitalization, inner cities, military communities, or for 1,000s of acres or 1-acre.

TG+P has designed over 1,800communities. Since our founding, these projects have resulted in more than $75billion of construction, illustrating our dedication to full implementation over the past 70+ years of practice. TG+P has received over 375 international, national, and local awards for our innovative Planning and Urban Design. This includes prestigious groups such as the American Planning Association, American Society of Landscape Architects, Congress for the New Urbanism, American Institute of Architects, Urban Land Institute, and International Council of Shopping Centers.

Our Leadership

We have been at the forefront of the walkable communities revolution for over 30-years. This means that our clients are the beneficiaries of the extensive knowledge that only comes from built projects, whether that be from full design of real estate development projects or the realization of development through implementation tools for cities. Much of this work is Transit Oriented Development-focused.

Research shows that the design of our communities significantly influences population health. We are leaders in healthy community and healthy building design with several certified projects. A case study tool we developed allows us to project the health outcomes of one community design over another. Interrelated, we have also created the H.O.D. (Hospital Oriented Development) concept – this prototype/approach leverages the hospital economic engine to benefit both the hospital and the community.
