Skyland Town Center

Washington, DC
Skyland is part of a longtime effort by the city to transform the now-razed Skyland Shopping Center into a mixed-use development.

The Skyland Town Center transforms an existing strip retail center into a vibrant, mixed-use town center.  The many challenges of this project include the introduction of a comparatively higher density to the existing neighborhood and the architectural integration of the town center.  A pedestrian friendly urban environment is established along a central Main Street. Street level retail is integrated into a topography with dramatic changes.

The large scale mixed-use project gained entitlement through the Planned Unit Development process. It required the successful inclusion and participation of stakeholders through a series of  community meetings, public hearings and design charrettes.
