Torti Gallas and Clark chose to preserve the historic buildings and convert them to luxury townhomes for families living on base.
Developed by Clark Realty Capital, “The Bricks”, as they are affectionately known, were three-story brick apartment buildings originally built in the 1920s. As part of a public/private venture to privatize Navy and Marine housing, “The Bricks” had become obsolete and were scheduled for demolition. Torti Gallas and Clark chose to preserve the historic buildings and convert them to luxury townhomes for families living on base.
The buildings were converted into walk-up townhouses with three or four bedrooms, a basement and garage. Their generous size provides more room and modern amenities than is typically found in military family housing. The buildings’ exteriors look unchanged. They were maintained in a Georgian Colonial Revival-style; but at the same time the character and quality of the floor plans has been clearly improved. Some of these improvements include garages connecting to each unit and outdoor living spaces with decks and sunrooms that provide a more comfortable living environment. All of the systems in the building have been replaced with high-efficiency, Energy Star rated equipment and retrofitted with fiber optic cables for data, voice and television services.
