The Inland Empire, California’s fastest-growing region, has transitioned from agriculture to a booming industrial and logistics hub, with business activity rebounding post-pandemic and housing remaining relatively affordable.
With a population of more than 4.75 million people encompassing San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, the Inland Empire (IE) is the fastest growing area of California. Once a center of agriculture, including citrus, dairy and wine-making, in more recent years owing to its proximity to Los Angeles and Orange Counties, its industrial and logistics sector has boomed, fueling the growth of its economy.
Although growth in the region slowed during the initial stages of the Covid-19 pandemic, the IE is steadily recovering. Its business activity has already rebounded in the second quarter of 2021 and it is anticipated that the Inland Empire will hit pre-pandemic levels of business activity by the end of the year. The Inland Empire's rapid growth is partly due to the fact that it is one of the more affordable housing markets in Southern California.
