Project Description

Edens Plaza is a neighborhood grocery anchored shopping center serving the surrounding Wilmette community as a trusted resource for daily needs. It is similar to thousands of others nationally that provide little to no placemaking for social engagement and celebration. The strip center format at Edens Plaza is further compromised in that it does not have a continuous storefront, but rather is separated by a drive aisle. This current layout lacks continuity and essentially creates two different shopping experiences. These fundamental challenges are exacerbated by vacancy.

Torti Gallas is working with a developer client on a placemaking strategy that creates a walkable, mixed-use community with residential and retail uses and an active public realm.
