Project Description

Avalon Somerville Station in northern New Jersey is a model for Transit Oriented Development. Designed as a fully-formed neighborhood, it is much more than a conventional apartment community, providing an easy train ride to New York City as well as close access to major interstate highways.  The project has been integrated into the station so that one can board a train from Penn Station in New York and arrive home dry and warm, using the pre-existing tunnel between the building and the station which has been carefully incorporated into the building.

The Architectural character of the development is rich with intricate courtyards and amenities which offer the intimate feeling of an old neighborhood with modern moments.  Residents can sit on the roof deck of Avalon Somerville Station and overlook community events and holiday celebrations.  At the heart of Avalon Somerville Station is the Station ‘Hub” Plaza, framed by apartment homes and the leasing office, which serves as a transit arrival center for commuters, workers, shoppers, and residents.  The buildings’ lobbies and lounges are immediately adjacent to this transit arrival plaza.

Whether taking a stroll through the neighborhood or rushing to work, one is immersed in tranquility and comfort born from the thoughtfully designed apartments and the abundant amenities Avalon Somerville Station provides. Resident amenities include a dog park, pool, fitness center, grilling stations, numerous private and public courtyards, work/collaboration nodes, various gathering areas and club rooms. A Community Meeting Hall is incorporated into the ground floor of the building for the use of Somerville residents, along with a retail space and small businesses.
