Avec on H Street

Washington, DC
Avec on H Street creates a signature event at this important interchange and also a wonderful open space for cafes and other activities that animate the street.

In concert with the District of Columbia’s investment of a streetcar system running along H Street, this new mixed-use development at 8th and H Streets is bringing vibrancy back to the H Street corridor.  The H Street façade has been carefully designed and articulated to be consistent with the character and fabric of the corridor.  The façade of the building abutting H Street contains two distinct pieces – a lower and well-articulated portion immediately on the street, and a taller mass of varying heights recessed back from the street.

The H Street façade is divided into seven distinct pieces, each with its own massing, façade character and material colors. The rhythms, window patterns and storefront character of these facades are all different, reinforcing the notion of these as separate entities.  The portion of the building at the corner of 8th and H Street has a distinctive curve and is articulated with a more modern vocabulary. This creates a signature event at this important interchange and also creates a wonderful open space for cafes and other activities that animate the street.

The modern units feature gourmet kitchens, 9-foot ceilings, in-unit washer/dryer, spacious closets, open shelving and large 6’-6” tall windows which provide the apartments with an abundance of natural light. Selected courtyard units enjoy patios/ balconies, while upper units feature 15’deep terraces at the setbacks with amazing views overlooking the neighborhood -a rare find in the City. The building lobby also partners with local artist curation program that helps bridging emerging local artists and residents who live in the building.
