MacArthur Park Apartments

MacArthur Park Apartments in downtown Los Angeles brings affordable housing footsteps from a subway station and the iconic MacArthur Park. The site planning and architecture required creative thinking and intricate engineering solutions to build above an existing subway tunnel and Metro station. The resulting design maximizes the connectivity between public transportation and the public realm, encourages ridership, promotes a pedestrian-friendly environment and creates a “sense of place.”

New units pay homage to the California courtyard typology with large windows that frame this view, as well as those of the Downtown Los Angeles skyline. Semi-private courts, as well as a public paseo and plaza, are combined with a festive landscape design to create a clearly defined open space hierarchy.
