Boneval Wins A 2021 CNU Charter Award!!

Torti Gallas is proud to announce that Bonéval is the recipient of a 2021 Congress for the New Urbanism Charter Award!

Developed by Community Three, Bonéval is an elegant 40-unit condominium building designed to seamlessly blend with the character of the surrounding rowhouse neighborhood. Bonéval is located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, DC, the largest residential historic district in the city. Capitol Hill is composed primarily of rowhouses of various styles and periods which sit side-by-side, forming a continuous wall broken only by street intersections. Interspersed throughout the neighborhood are low-rise multifamily and commercial buildings.

The idea of an idiosyncratically assembled street wall informed the design of Bonéval in two distinct pieces - a Romanesque-inspired façade on C Street and a larger neoclassical building along the more heavily trafficked 8th Street. Great attention was given to the carefully-crafted details of the building, complementing the character of the historic district.

The result of these efforts is a modern-day urban jewel, one that pays respect to the history that came before it and the legacy it will now leave for future neighborhood residents to come.
