Project Description

The center shares the site with Birney School which houses a DC Charter Elementary School. The layout of the new outdoor playfields allows them to be utilized by both the Charter School and the center. The new Recreation Center contains approximately 22,400 gsf of space including a gym (basketball court with bleachers), community use rooms (game room, exercise room, senior lounge, etc.), and pool house. A new indoor pool adjacent to the pool house balances the gym footprint. A courtyard functions as an outdoor room for the center with a central seating area and a bioswale creating a landscaped edge adjacent to the playfield. A new combination football/soccer/softball field will anchor the center portion of the site.
